As usual, the Choir has a number of engagements in December from local carol singing to our own Christmas Concert. Details of these can be found below
9th December 2017
The Christmas Season commenced on Saturday 9th December when local people from Worrall and the surrounding area, and one who had travelled all the way from the North-East of England met with Choir members in Worrall Chapel for a Christmas celebration sing-a-long. It was an enjoyable afternoon lead by Steve Vickers who also accompanied us on the piano. Carols were chosen from the Blue Book including a couple of rarely sung ones. As always, Worrall Male Voice Choir plays a significant role in keeping the tradition of the local Sheffield carols alive for future generations and it was good to welcome people of all ages.
11th December 2017The choir again visited Loxley Park Residential Home to sing carols to the local residents providing pre-Christmas entertainment with a mixture of local carols and pieces from the Christmas repertoire.
15th December 2017The choir held the Annual Christmas concert at Wesley Hall, Crookes, where we were joined by Chapeltown Silver Band in a concert commencing at 7:30pm. The choir started the concert by singing 5 pieces commencing with "Hark the herald angels sing" arranged by Hawryluk, including "Still, Still, Still" by Luboff and concluding with the Christmas Story with the first verse of each of the "Six Old Cornish Christmas Carols" arranged by Williams. The band then played 4 pieces commencing with "A Christmas Festival" by Anderson arranged by Wood, and concluding with "Christmas Swingalong" arranged by Ashmore" The audience were then invited to join in the singing of 5 carols from the Blue Book including "Sing all ye people of the earth today, While Shepherds watched (to the tune Worrall) and concluding the first half of the concert with "O come, all ye faithful"
The second half of the concert commenced with the choir singing 3 more pieces, commencing with "Angels" by Williams and Chambers arranged by Wallace, and concluding with "Christmas Cracker II arranged by Wiltshire. In between, we sang "The Christmas Bells", and then the audience were invited to join in, having been split into 3 groups - I have to say it wasn't bad. The band then played five more pieces - commencing with "A Christmas Ho-Hoedown" by Barry, including "Santa Claus-trophobia" arranged by Smith, and concluding with "Troika" by Prokofiev arranged by Farr. The audience were then invited to sing 5 more carols from the Blue Book commencing with "Behold, the grace appears", including "Rolling Downward" and concluding with "A Merry Christmas". After wishing everyone well for the Christmas Season, the choir concluded the concert in the usual way by singing "Stuff the Turkey" arranged by Peaker.
15th & 20th December 2017
Members of the choir again took part in University Carol Singing at St Andrew's URC, Hanover Way in Sheffield from 12:30 to 13:50pm where we supported the local carol workshops led by Worrall Male Voice Choirs Musical Director, Nigel Russell, and Assistant Musical Director, Stephen Vickers.
